The service that adapts to the needs of the globalized market

Machine translation is an essential tool to increase the speed of a message to be conveyed to your target audience in the desired languages. By enabling you to process large volumes of text quickly and economically, machine translation extends your company’s reach.

Although machine translation is useful in specific cases, ensuring that personal data and confidential information contained in the text are protected and that the context of the content is appropriate is mandatory. In addition, ensuring that cultural and domain-specific issues are considered is mandatory.

What is post-editing?

Post-editing is the process that involves analyzing, reviewing, and correcting errors resulting from machine translation in order to ensure that it meets a quality level previously negotiated between the client and Korn.

The post-editor – a duly qualified linguist capable of working with the machine translation output – shall perform the changes at different levels, applying corrections to the errors that the machine-translated text presents, and following the client’s specifications regarding the target audience, means of publishing the text and expected purpose.

Post-editing levels are divided into two approaches: Light post-editing (LPE) and Full post-editing (FPE):

  • Light post-editing: It requires a lower level of editing, correcting only typos, punctuation, desktop publishing, and syntax errors, resulting in an intelligible text that does not prioritize style, terminological standardization, and natural flow in the target language. This is usually used for internal disclosure.
  • Full post-editing: It requires a higher level of editing when compared to light post-editing, specifically correcting recurring errors arising from the machine, syntax, spelling, focusing on terminological standardization, and text style and fluidity. The result is an understandable, uniform text with a high level of the natural flow.

In both approaches, the post-editor will evaluate the possibility of using the text produced by the machine, applying the relevant changes to the approach considered applicable. If in light post-editing the result is generally used only for internal corporate purposes, full post-editing offers the possibility of being applied to different types of text, including for external disclosure.

Our team has qualified and trained professionals to deliver the post-editing service to the client with the agreed specifications and the best value for money.

What is the difference between translation and post-edit?

Post-editing differs from translation as it allows large volumes of text to be translated more quickly and economically and should be considered in this specific situation, in addition to cases where there is urgency in delivery or budget constraint. On the other hand, the traditional translation performed by linguists without the use of machine translation prioritizes quality, context, cultural references, use of specific jargon, standardization, and text fluidity.

Should I contract a translation or post-editing for my content?

Our team is able to guide the client on the choice between translation and post-editing, taking into account their needs in terms of deadline, budget, and intended use. In the translation service, the translator transposes in an unprecedented manner; that is, from scratch, the source language content to the target language, complying with style, contextual issues of the original, and adaptation to the document area at the highest level of editing, attention, and quality of the service delivered.

In post-editing, the post-editor will start from the orientation to carry out light editing (maximum use of the machine output, with minimum editing level) or complete editing (maximum use of the text produced by the machine, with a more comprehensive minimum editing level), applying adjustments to this text at the stylistic, syntactic, and semantic level.

In addition to price, deadline, and usage, what will determine which service is the most appropriate to the clients’ needs is their expectation of the product, in addition to use and suitability guidelines that can be aligned with our client relationship team.
